Development of blood tests to predict long term clinical outcomes in chronic liver disease

Principal Investigator: Winthrop Professor Gary Jeffrey

Chronic liver disease including chronic hepatitis C, chronic hepatitis B, no-alcoholic fatty liver disease and alcoholic liver disease have similar nature histories with a prolonged asymptomatic early phase and variable later clinical progression. It has long been a challenge to identify patients with chronic liver disease who have more severe disease and have a greater risk of developing liver related morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study is to develop serum models that directly predict the risk of liver related death, liver decompensation and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in chronic liver disease.
