Dr Luu is Resident Medical Officer at Sir Charles Gairdner Osborne Park Hospital Group and was awarded the $30,000 Ray Florence Shaw Grant from Charlies Foundation for Research in 2025 to investigate whether changes in the retina’s blood vessels can reveal the presence of cancer elsewhere in the body.

New Buggy for Osborne Park Hospital
Charlies Foundation for Research is delighted to sponsor a new Patient Transfer Buggy Vehicle for Osborne Park Hospital. The donation has created easier access around the Hospital complex for patients to transfer from car parks, or from one block to another.
Australian First Surgery for Lung Cancer
Last year, WA received a state-first bronchoscopy robot at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital enabling Dr Thakker to locate the cancer deep in the lungs moments before Thoracic surgeon Dr Mesa-Guzman performed the minimally invasive surgery allowing the patient to wake up cancer-free.
